The forum boards are a place for the mountain bike community to communicate and share information. Please do not indulge in profanity, mean spirited posts or attacks. Keep it fun. TriangleMTB.com and it's supporters do not accept liability or legal responsibility for any injuries, damage, or losses allegedly caused by using our forum web pages. Respect the public forums. The boards are monitored and administrated regularly.

Newly Registered Accounts

Due to an influx of spambots, we now are manually approving all new registrants. We did not want to do this but unfortunately were pushed into it. Normally it will take us under 24 hours to authorize new registrants but may take longer. Please be patient with us during this process. Once authorized, you will have to confirm your account using the link sent to you in an email. If your account is denied, it may have looked like either a spambot or a troll account. If your new account registration is denied yet you are not a spammer, email the account name to [email protected] from the email address you used when registering. We apologize for any problems that these new measures may cause.

Rules and Guidelines

TriangleMTB rules for the forum use. By using the forum you agree to abide by these rules. The guidelines are for your convenience, and you may follow them if you find them helpful.

Reporting a violation or inappropriate post:

If a post violates any of these rules or is otherwise inappropriate, please report it to a moderator. Use the link at the bottom right of the post you wish to report. You must be logged in to do so. If you don't have a account you may email us at [email protected]. Make sure to include a link to the post and specify why you're reporting the post.

Specific Rules:

One forum username per person. Please do not sign up for multiple forum accounts. There is a way of changing the display name in the forum user preferences configuration if you wish to change the name shown.

Do not act condescending towards other type of riders. There is no need to attack others based on their riding preferences (xc, fr, dh, etc.) We all enjoy riding our bikes.

Type using U.S. English. We won't be overly strict about grammar, punctuation, or spelling, but posts containing a textspeak, severe lack of punctuation, and seemingly purposeful disregard for spelling and/or grammar may be deleted at our moderators discretion. The reason behind this is primarily the fact that the forum is a reflection of the web site as a whole, and we have had too much trouble with script kiddies.

About content promoting entities external to TriangleMTB.com. We do not want our forums to be used as a vehicle for advertising or promoting commercial interests, or promoting web sites competing with trianglemtb.com. The specifics of this are difficult to define in abstract rule like terms, so we must explain this in paragraph format. The chief offenders of this rule are typically profile signatures linking to cycling products or web sites competing with TriangleMTB.com. Other infractions would include brazenly naming or linking race sponsors in posts referring to MTB races. It is perfectly acceptable and even encouraged to post races and news of general interest to the mountain bike community, but impudent promotions of external entities may result in post/profile editing, deletion, or even banning at the discretion of our moderators. Note this does not mean you may not refer others to external web sites in response to posts asking for advice, or when the conversation benefits from the referral. We are primarily trying to eliminate signature spam/plugs and unfair use of TriangleMTB.com for the purpose of advertising.

No personal attacks. This is very different than disagreeing or arguing, which are OK, but be an adult about it and stay on topic and not get personal. No name calling.No threats of violence or any other kind.

Post a message only once, and in the appropriate board. Please don’t cross post. We realize that not every topic will clearly fit into one particular board, so just do your best and it will be fine.

Political-Socio-Economic-Religion Topics We have a special board to cover any topic remotely related to Political-Socio-Economic-Religion Topics. The board is a child board to the "Everything Else" board and you must be signed in to the forum for this board to display. Please use the Political-Socio-Economic-Religion board for topics even loosely related to these subjects.

Keep content family friendly. TriangleMTB.com is for everyone, not just adults. No nudity or profanity please.

No spam. The boards are for discussion and information exchange, not unsolicited adds. Recommendations for or against bike equipment is not considered spam. It's okay to post demo days. Local bike store owners, employees, and representatives are more than welcome to post, but please no ads.

Do not discuss illegal trails! You may only discuss or mention legal trails. No illegal trail talk even if the trail has been around for a long time. You may not refer to an illegal trail by "sounds like ...", "... area" or any other means. If it's not listed or linked on our trails page then it most likely shouldn't be posted about. Contact a moderator or administrator if you aren't sure if the trail is legal.

General unquantifiable rules (use common sense when making judgment):

Don't take the posts too seriously, and try to have a somewhat thick skin. Not everybody is going to agree with you, or even like you. Before reporting to the forum admin or the webmaster, ask yourself if it's really worth getting upset over. If you have personal issues with other riders, work it out with them. If somebody is harassing you or attacking you personally, please notify the forum admin.

Don't be openly or passively aggressive towards other users. Joking around is fine, but remember that the subtle inflections that discern a joke from a slam are often missed in forum communication. All the smilies and winkies in the world don't offset a slam. Treat people the way you want to be treated.

Whining about other people whining is also whining.

Use the Private Message (PM) feature or email to communicate with specific people. Don't fill up the boards with posts not meant for public discussion or information. Your opinion counts, but just posting 'thanks' or 'that's cool' fills up the forum with basically an empty post. The message boards should not be used as a chat room. Tip: your PM's can be connected to your email address by clicking on the "preferences" box while in your PM area, and then selection the option to mail PM's. Don't forget to save your preferences before exiting your PM area. There is also an "ignore" feature that works similarly.

For Sale Board

(in addition to above):

No commercial posts. The for sale board is meant of local riders, not retail stores.

No bumping your post. This includes you or your friends replying to keep your post on top or replying "still available/looking" or "make me an offer.". If you significantly change your price or want to add what's included, then by all means reply to the original post. Bumping has ruined other site's for sale boards.

No jumping in on other posts saying things like "Don’t buy this one, mine is cheaper". Appropriate replies to For Sale posts are offers, serious questions and requesting more info. Inappropriate replies include links to Craigslist, Ebay etc showing a similar item for cheaper, comments like "This is a great deal", "I wish it fit me", "What a rip off" and other comments from a third party.
Replies to posts should be between the seller and prospective buyers. If you are not the seller or are not a genuine prospective buyer, then do not reply.
Sold Items. Once an item sells, reply stating SOLD.
WTB / Want to Buy posts. Keep in mind that there is a bicycle parts company named Wilderness Trail Bikes, or WTB for short. List all "Wanted to buy" posts as "Wanted: ____________" in the suject line instead of "WTB _______________"

Bottom line

We try to allow a lively forum but in the end we reserve the right to delete, edit, relocate, or hide any post at our discretion without any notice or explanation. On to the forum!
